Become a Plymouth Police Cadet

The Plymouth Police Cadet program is an all-new program designed to create paths for those aspiring to become police officers. As part of the program, police cadets receive college tuition assistance to complete a two-year law enforcement degree and work a paid and flexible part-time position conducting Community Service Officer duties within the City of Plymouth.

Police cadets complete the two-year program with the intention of being hired as a police officer as soon the cadet becomes qualified, and the department has an opening.

The Plymouth Police Cadet Program is part of the West Metro Police Cadet Program, a multi-agency initiative assisting individuals interested in law enforcement careers with tuition assistance and paid learning opportunities. Agencies part of the West Metro Police Cadet Program include Edina, Eden Prairie, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka.

The department assists the cadet in preparation for the role of police officer by:

  • Providing college tuition assistance for the required education up to a total of $16,500 per year for two years at an approved accredited law enforcement program.
  • Providing a part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week) conducting Community Service Officer duties.
  • Providing a police officer mentor to orient the cadet to the department’s mission, values, policies, procedures, equipment and methods of providing law enforcement services.
