Volunteer to Adopt a Storm Drain
Help keep storm drains clear of leaves, yard waste, salt, sand and trash to prevent storm water pollution. This volunteer position is available through the Plymouth Public Works Department.
Time Commitment:
- As needed during spring and fall – year-round if possible.
Activities/Duties:
- Remove leaves, twigs, yard waste, salt, sand and trash from storm drain grates and dispose appropriately.
- Keep storm drain free of ice and snow, if possible.
- Register your storm drain with the Adopt a Spot program so your storm drain and volunteer commitment can be recorded.
- Report any concerns as needed at plymouthmn.gov/myPlymouth or by using the myPlymouth app, which is available from the Google Play and Apple App stores.
Qualifications:
- Desire to keep Plymouth’s watersheds free of storm water pollution.
- Willing to follow through on a commitment.
- Dependable and responsible.
- You can take your responsibilities a step further and check out a storm drain marking kit to apply a sticker educating others about storm drain pollution.
Note: This is an unsupervised position but can be a great introduction for children to begin volunteering and learning about giving back to their communities.

Storm Drain Marking Kits
If you're seeking an additional way to help protect water quality in Plymouth, consider checking out (borrowing) a storm drain marking kit from the City of Plymouth. The kits contain a curb sticker with the message "No dumping –drains to lake" to help educate others about storm drains and their relationship to water quality.
