Plymouth requires a permit to erect, alter or relocate any fence or wall within the city. There is no charge for fences up to six (6) feet in height, or for retaining walls up to four (4) feet in height.

The purpose of a permit is to ensure the placement, height and appearance of fences comply with requirements set forth in the Plymouth Zoning Ordinance.

A conditional use permit and issuance of a building permit are required for all fences exceeding six (6) feet in height.  Engineered plans and a building permit are required for all retaining walls over four (4) feet in height.
