Enjoy a "Taste of Plymouth" at the Night to Unite Open House
Post Date:07/15/2011
Plymouth’s Police and Fire departments will welcome Plymouth residents to a free open house to kick-off Night to Unite on Tues., Aug. 2, 2:30 – 5 p.m., at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Ave. N.
Coined “A Taste of Plymouth,” more than a dozen local restaurants will be offering complimentary samples of their cuisine and beverages. The open house will give parents, grandparents and children an insider’s view of fire trucks, squad cars and an ambulance while they learn about fire and personal safety.
Kids can squirt water from a fire hose, hop in two moon walk, and meet McGruff and Sparky the police and fire mascots. North Memorial’s Aircare helicopter, SWAT, a K9 Unit and a water rescue craft will also be on the scene to answer questions and discuss their roles in the community.
“We designed the open house to be a fun learning experience for all ages, and we appreciate our local businesses that have helped make this a free event for the public,” said Police Chief Mike Goldstein. “It’s a great event that has grown every year. Save the date. We hope to see you there.”
Families are encouraged to bring a back-to-school supply or a nonperishable food item. Donations will be collected and shared with Interfaith Outreach and Prism.
Following the open house, neighborhoods across Plymouth will host block parties from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Potluck dinners, cookouts, dessert swaps, games, bike parades and sporting activities are just some of the activities featured in these block parties.
