The City of Plymouth has announced the closure of all public beaches due to water quality concerns. Beaches will remain closed for the summer.

Like other cities in the metro area, the City of Plymouth must periodically close beaches each summer due to naturally-occurring water quality concerns.

Swimming, kayaking and recreation activities in the water are not advised.

Public water bodies are regularly tested and monitored for bacteria levels, particularly Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. High levels of bacteria can cause skin irritation or illness.

Water quality concerns from high levels of bacteria, such as E. coli, and other water-borne illnesses affecting lakes in Plymouth are typically caused by animal waste from geese and other waterfowl. Bacteria can be introduced to the water directly or through rainstorm runoff.

Signage has been posted at all public beaches in Plymouth.
