Video: Local Businesses Help Beef Up Summer Programming
This summer Plymouth’s Parks and Recreation Department is adding movies in the park, expanding its concerts series, initiating a naturalist program and extending the run of the Farmers Market – all thanks to sponsorships from local businesses.
Faced with shrinking budgets and growing demand for more affordable and free family activities, Plymouth’s Recreation Division managers decided to make a concerted effort to develop and package sponsorship opportunities for businesses. The stepped up efforts have already netted $16,000 in sponsorships for the spring/summer season.
Sponsorships work both ways. While the community benefits with new and improved events, the businesses also benefit. “Key to the program is finding a good fit for the business,” said Recreation Manager Regina Michaud. “We want to match them with an event or program that fits their brand or philanthropic mission,” she added.
Thanks to sponsorships, look for the following this summer:
- An expanded Entertainment in the Parks series from June through August, including new Monday night concerts at the Hilde Performance Center and an additional Prairie Fire Theatre Production.
- Five extra weeks of Plymouth Farmers Market, including entertainment and theme nights.
- Free, family-oriented movies, ranging from “Despicable Me” and “Megamind” to “Alice in Wonderland” and “Simon Birch,” at the newly renovated Hilde Performance Center.
- Two naturalist visits at the Hilde Performance Center.
