Ramps Set to Reopen Aug. 27-28
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that the following southbound Interstate 494 ramps in Plymouth and Minnetonka will reopen beginning Thursday, Aug. 27:
- Carlson Parkway to southbound I-494
- Westbound I-394 to southbound I-494
- Southbound I-494 to westbound Highway 12
- Southbound I-494 to Carlson Parkway
The ramps had been closed since April while I-494 traffic between I-394 and Highway 55 was shifted to the northbound lanes of I-494.
Crews also will open the southbound I-494 ramps at Highway 55 in Plymouth by 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, weather permitting. The ramps have been closed for repairs since July 28.
Ramps Set to Open Early Fall
The following ramps will remain closed through early fall 2015:
- Carlson Parkway to northbound I-494
Detour: Xenium/Plymouth Road, County Road 6, I-394 and northbound I-494
- Eastbound I-394 to northbound I-494
Detour: Eastbound I-394, Highway 169, westbound I-394 and northbound I-494
Southbound I-494 Traffic Shift at Highway 55 set for Aug. 27
MnDOT announced that traffic on southbound I-494 will shift to the newly reconstructed southbound lanes between Highway 55 and I-394 beginning Thursday, Aug. 27, weather permitting.
I-494 between I-394 and Highway 55 will remain open to two lanes in each direction after the shift.
I-494 between I-94/694 and Highway 55 will remain open to three lanes of traffic; two lanes in one direction and one lane in the opposite direction through fall 2015.

Work is progressing on a two-year construction project on I-494 that includes:
- Repairing the pavement on the interstate
- Adding a third lane on I-494 between Highway 55 and I-94/694
- Building noise walls along the interstate
Motorists are advised to drive carefully and slow down through the work zone. Extra speed patrols are in place throughout the project area.
