Though costumes and candy can make trick-or-treating a fun Halloween activity, the Plymouth Police Department encourages residents to be vigilant and aware of safety hazards.
The following are safety tips from the Plymouth Police Department in regards to costumes, trick-or-treating and pedestrians:
- Adults should inspect all candy and treats prior to consumption.
- Trick-or-treaters should only visit homes in their neighborhood or homes of people they know.
- Look both ways before crossing the street and be on the lookout for traffic.
- Young trick-or-treaters should have adult supervision or travel in groups.
- Try to finish trick-or-treating before it gets dark.
- Motorists should slow down in residential neighborhoods and obey all traffic signs and signals.
- Motorists should obey the crosswalk law and stop for pedestrians at corners.
- Motorists should watch for children walking in or near the street.
As an alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating, the City of Plymouth will host its annual Halloween at the Creek event 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.
