After a long, harsh winter, a little exercise may be just what it takes to raise a person’s spirit. The City of Plymouth encourages residents to join the “Step to It” Challenge.
This fun, four-week competition encourages physical activity as it pits 22 northwest metro cities against one another. Bragging rights will go to the city that is most active and to those that have the highest average “steps” per participant.
Registered participants will track their daily activity using a pedometer or conversion chart on the Step to It website, steptoit.org. Virtually every action counts – walking, biking, running, cleaning, gardening or playing with the children. The winning city and top active residents will be honored at a Twins home game during the 2014 season.
The challenge is free – and registration begins April 1. The competition will run from May 4-31. Register at steptoit.org or call 763-509-5223.
Walk with the Mayor
To kick off the challenge, join Mayor Kelli Slavik for her annual Walk with the Mayor event 6-7 p.m. Monday, May 5 at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Ave. N.
The walk is free and there is no need to register. Participants will take a leisurely 30-45 minute walk through Plymouth Creek Park and the Hilde Performance Center. Snacks and water will be provided – participants should bring a water bottle. The first 200 people will get a free Step to It Challenge T-shirt.
