Plymouth residents are seeing some important changes in the city’s curbside recycling program this year.
New Schedule
Recycling collection has changed from a weekly to an every-other-week schedule (PDF). Curbside recycling days will remain the same, though. Plymouth will still be divided into Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collection areas. Each of those areas will be further divided into smaller “blue” and “grey” sections (PDF) to designate the week for recycling collection.
New Carts, No Sorting
With the advent of the new program, Plymouth residents will be able to put all their recyclable materials in one 65-gallon wheeled cart. No sorting will be necessary. To receive a replacement, extra or different size recycling cart, call Allied Waste Services at 952-941-5174.
Residents may keep their old recycling bins or drop them off for reuse or recycling. A container will be available through February at Plymouth's Maintenance Facility, 14900 23rd Ave. N. for recycling the bins.
More Materials
Plymouth residents will be able to recycle more plastics (PDF) on both the curbside and drop-off recycling programs. Plastic containers like yogurt cups, margarine/whipped cream tubs and deli containers (except Styrofoam) will be some of the new materials accepted. When in doubt, look for the number inside chasing arrows on the item. If it’s a number 1 through 7, and no larger than nine inches in diameter, it can be recycled in the program.
Plastic shopping bags are also accepted for recycling. Simply stuff several into one bag and tie it shut.
