Fire Station 2 ribbon cutting, open house

Photo of the newly reconstructed Fire Station 2The Plymouth Fire Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the newly reconstructed Fire Station 2 from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at 12000 Old Rockford Road.

The event begins with a formal presentation at 9 a.m., followed by an open house 9:30-11 a.m. All are welcome to attend, and no RSVP is required.

Fire Station 2 was mostly complete last summer, but a construction-related delay postponed its official opening. Fire Station 3 also underwent a significant construction project and was reopened in August 2022.

Project Background

Originally built in 1977, Fire Station 2 in eastern Plymouth was demolished in spring 2021 due to the station’s insufficient size and outdated infrastructure. The station was unable to meet the needs of the Plymouth Fire Department, following its transition to a hybrid staffing model comprised of both part-time/on-call and full-time firefighters.

The model allows Plymouth firefighters to be on staff 24/7 and significantly reduces response times, especially for overnight calls for service.

To better accommodate 24-hour staffing, prioritize training and firefighter health, and improve emergency preparedness, the new station features residence space, including a kitchen, dayroom and dorms; on-site training facilities; an emergency operations center; improved energy efficiency; and more.
