Ward 1 Plymouth City Council Member Alise McGregor has announced that she will resign her seat, effective immediately, due to her plans to relocate outside of Plymouth.
McGregor has represented the northwest quadrant of Plymouth since 2019. She submitted her letter of resignation to the city Thursday, Feb. 22.
McGregor was appointed to the City Council in 2019 to fill a vacancy following the resignation of former Mayor and Council Member Judy Johnson, who resigned when she was appointed by Governor Walz to serve on the Metropolitan Council. McGregor was subsequently elected in 2020 to serve a four-year term.
McGregor wrote in her resignation letter that serving the city “has been a great honor filled with making great relationships with many people!”
McGregor’s term on the City Council was set to expire Jan. 6, 2025. Per the Plymouth City Charter, Mayor Jeff Wosje has called a special City Council meeting 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 to declare the Ward 1 seat vacant and discuss options for filling the vacancy.
“Plymouth is truly a special community,” McGregor wrote. “I have been proud of the work we have accomplished.”
