The Plymouth City Council appointed Kelli Slavik to the vacant Ward 2 council seat during the Aug. 16 City Council meeting. The Ward 2 seat was open following the Aug. 1 resignation of former council member Nick Roehl.
Slavik is a former Plymouth City Council member and mayor. She was first elected to the City Council in 1998 to represent Ward 2 (southwest Plymouth). After two terms as council member, she was elected mayor in 2006. Slavik was reelected in 2010 and 2014, but did not seek reelection in 2018.
As the newly appointed Ward 2 council member, Slavik may serve the remainder of the current term, which expires Dec. 31, 2022. However, Slavik said she intends to resign just prior to the Nov. 8 general election to allow the City Council to immediately fill the seat with the newly elected candidate (who would otherwise wait until January to begin the new term).
